National Dates for Boating Safety Tie-In for 2007

This detailed listing of events, along with suggested tie-ins to boating safety and maritime domain awareness messages, will also serve as a valuable tool for formulating a public affairs strategic plan for 2007.  The list doesn't reflect any local events that also may present public affairs opportunities.

While it is not expected that every unit will have a corresponding public affairs campaign or press release for every event, simply following this list of suggestions will go a long way towards increasing public awareness about our organization and key programs.

Updated Boat Show Guide for 2007

Prepared by Stu Soffer from the National Marketing Group, this Guide offers a number of suggestions to help ensure that your boat show exhibits help recruit new members, and result in an increase for our public education classes and Vessel Safety Check programs.  It includes recommended lists of materials to have on hand, and how to set up your exhibit to invite visitors to see what we're about.  {Consult with your local chain of leadership and management to make sure these suggestions are in line with local policies for uniforms of the day and other matters}

By visiting
http://www.auxadept.org/training/exhibits.htm, you will also find links to a PowerPoint presentation and video which can be viewed by those who will be staffing the boat show.  There are also links to order forms for additional handout materials available from BoatU.S.  at http://www.auxadept.org/training/BoatUSOrderForm.pdf, as well as the latest  ANSC catalog, available at http://www.cgauxa.org/pdf/DCATAug-06.pdf.

Check Out the Operations and Marine Safety Directorate Web Site

This site will feature the many issues where the Operations and Marine Safety and Environmental Protection Departments collaborate.  Whether you are conducting facility compliance checks or multi-mission patrols, you provide direct support to the Coast Guard.  The OMS Directorate provides the support that you need to meet the expectations of the Coast Guard.  This Web site will provide you with additional resources to help get the job done.

Our first initiative is to support your efforts in Contingency Planning.  We have searched for information and tools to help you plan and provide for contingency or surge response.  However, we want to hear from you!  Your experience in field level contingency operations is valuable and you have much to share with the rest of the Auxiliary community.  I would encourage everyone to contribute to our “Best Practices” forum and share your lessons learned.
