Commandant Signs U.S Coast Guard Auxiliary Policy Statement

ADM Thad Allen, Commandant of the Coast Guard, has signed the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Policy Statement. This one page document clearly outlines the Auxiliary's goals and charges the active duty and reserve components to fully engage the Auxiliary at every command level. This policy statement firmly places the Auxiliary in Coast Guard mission planning and execution.

National Staff Appointments - National Directorate Commodores (NADCOs)

NACO(e) Steve Budar has appointed the following officers to his staff when he assumes command Nov. 2, 2006:

BoatUS MOA (Memorandum of Agreement) Signed

The Boat Owners’ Association of the United States (BoatU.S.) recently approved a Memorandum of Agreement (PDF: 60 KB / 3 pages) benefiting members of the Auxiliary and the Auxiliary Association. The agreement was signed during a special ceremony at NACON 2006. The new BoatU.S. MOA clarifies the discounts offered to Auxiliary and Association members: Annual Membership Fee; Towing Packages; Seaworthy Magazine. The agreement also lists other benefits, including a significant change from the old agreement is clarifying the method by which Auxiliary and “Association-only” members may qualify for the various discounts.

Generations

Research data on generational attitudes and behaviors was discussed at NACON from the perspective of leadership, recruitment and retention. The Auxiliary Study (PDF: 832 KB / 37 pages) on how diverse generational attitudes will affect a volunteer organization was distributed to the National Board. Dr. Karen D. Kimmel of the Leadership Development Center was the keynote speaker at NACON. Her Speech on Generations (PDF: 252 KB / 12 pages) and a Summary Chart (MS EXCEL: 20 KB / 1 pages) are now accessible via the Training Department, Personnel Department and Chief of Staff websites.

New Operations & Marine Safety Web Site

We are pleased to announce the completion and availability of the Operations and Marine Safety (OMS) web site. The site features many valuable documents concerning contingency/surge response planning and links to Auxiliary and non-Auxiliary sites that are helpful in this area. A model Auxiliary Sectorization plan is also featured.

2006 Best of Web Awards Announced At NACON

The best examples of Auxiliary websites were honored at NACON 2006. The webmasters of these winning sites have spent countless hours creating engaging and effective websites that deliver the Auxiliary message in a highly professional manner. The winning websites for 2006 were: Flotilla 01-04 of District 11 Southern; Division 2 of District 9 Western; District 13. Winners receive a certificate, along with a 5 Star Logo for their websites and a crystal trophy, presented to their DCO.

CG Auxiliary Association Announces New Affiliation

The Coast Guard Auxiliary Association has affiliated with Entertainment Publications, publishers of the Entertainment Book. With 156 local editions though the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada, each local edition contains discount coupons for use locally, nationally and internationally for services, food, air travel and more. Auxiliary members and the general public can purchase the book through ShopAuxiliary.com. The Association in turn receives a royalty from Entertainment Publications to support Auxiliary programs.
