During World War II many CG
Auxiliarists signed on as civilian contract mariners in the Army
Transportation Corps. Ed Dennis of Queens,
New York served in
New Guinea.
Shown here are fellow members of his vessel, nicknamed "the Atabrine
Express," gathered around the 20mm forward gun. Atabrine was an
antimalarial drug; the boat crew conducted medical evacuations, among
other duties.
